BASIN STREET BLUE
by Craig Biondi - available under the SYMPHONIC BAND tab
Basin Street Blue imagines the world of New Orleans street musicians through the lens of our present racial struggles. Oh, it’s still a fun piece of music. And you can still hear the street-corner Dixieland band jamming and the soulful tunes hummed in the alleyways. But now it’s more complicated, and possibly, a little more honest.
Many thanks to Dr. Cynthia Johnson Turner and the Hodgson Wind Ensemble for this fantastic 2017 premiere performance. (Duration: 10')
“Basin Street Blue is a terrific piece. The message is powerful and important but spoken in a playful, and at times, humorous voice. Something to dig into for all of the musicians and the audience loves it.”
